What is Rio Carnaval ?

Rio Carnaval is the biggest event of the Brazilian cultural calendar, and Samba is the soul of Carnaval in Rio. The parades at the Sambadrome are the central focus of the celebration, but it is also celebrated in other cities like Salvador, São Paulo, Florianopolis and more.

The Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro is held every year before Lent; it is considered the biggest carnaval in the world, with two million people per day on the streets. The first Carnaval festival in Rio occurred in 1723.

Street Parties and Blocos

The Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro has more than just Samba schools and parades; it also has many street parties called "Blocos".

The city's streets are filled with the rhythm of samba as numerous street parades take place. Locals and tourists alike join in the festivities, dancing and singing along to the infectious beats. These gatherings attract up to a million excited partygoers and are a crucial part of the celebrations.
